1.3.0 Oath of Office
1.3.1 Policy
It is the policy of the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office that all sworn correctional personnel shall take and subscribe to an Oath of Office prior to assuming the duties and responsibilities of their position. The Oath of Office affirms the commitment of each employee to uphold the Constitution, maintain the rule of law, and faithfully execute the duties of the office of Correctional Officer.
No individual shall be granted full authority or permitted to exercise the powers of a Correctional Officer until the Oath of Office has been properly administered and documented.
1.3.2 Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to establish a formal declaration of duty, loyalty, and ethical responsibility for all Correctional Officers employed by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office. The Oath serves as the foundation for professional conduct, accountability, and public trust.
1.3.3 Oath of Office
I, ____________________________________________, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United
States and the Constitution of the State of Alabama against all enemies, foreign and domestic; and
That I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and
That I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and
That I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office of Correctional Officer at the Randolph County Sheriff's Office; and
That I will uphold the laws of this State and the policies, procedures, and ethical standards of this agency; and
That I will maintain the safety, security, and orderly operation of the correctional facility; and
That I will treat all individuals in my custody with fairness, dignity, and respect, while ensuring accountability under the law; and
That I will exercise my authority with integrity, professionalism, and sound judgment, using only that force which is reasonable, necessary, and lawful; and
That I will conduct myself, on and off duty, in a manner that brings honor to the profession of corrections; and
So help me God!
1.3.4 Administration of Oath
A. The Oath of Office shall be administered by the Sheriff, Chief Deputy, or Chief Jail Administrator.
B. The Oath shall be administered prior to assignment of duties involving unsupervised detainee contact or access to secured areas of the facility.
C. The executed Oath shall be witnessed, signed, and placed in the employee’s official personnel file.
1.3.5 Acknowledgment
All employees are required to acknowledge understanding that violation of the principles contained within this Oath may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment and, when applicable, criminal prosecution.
