Section 1 - Classification
1.1 Classification Criteria
The Randolph County Chief Jail Administrator shall evaluate the following factors when determining the classification of each detainee:
a. Nature and severity of the offense
b. Pretrial or sentenced status
c. Behavioral history and institutional conduct
d. Attitude and compliance with facility rules
e. Medical and mental health needs
f. Level of security risk
g. Operational needs of the facility
1.2 Classification Levels
Detainees shall be assigned to one of the following classification levels:
a. General Population – Open Dorm
b. General Population – Medium Security
c. Segregation / Protective Custody
d. Trustee
1.3 Housing Assignment
Detainees shall be housed in an area consistent with their assigned classification level.
1.4 Reclassification
Classification status is subject to change at any time. Detainees may be reassigned to a different housing area based on updated classification determinations.
1.5 Privileges
Detainee privileges are determined by classification status and compliance with facility rules.
1.6 Trustee Status
Trustees are selected at the discretion of the Chief Jail Administrator. Requests for trustee status will not be accepted or considered.
1.7 Protective Custody Requests
Detainees who believe they are at risk or require protective custody shall immediately notify a staff member. Appropriate measures will be taken to ensure detainee safety.
1.8 Classification Review Requests
Detainees may submit a request to speak with the Chief Jail Administrator regarding their classification status.
1.9 Administrative Authority
Facility administration reserves the right to reassign detainees to any housing area within the facility or transfer detainees to another detention facility within the State of Alabama at its discretion.
