Section 20 - Disciplinary Status Conditions
20.1 – Disciplinary Status Conditions
If you are placed on disciplinary status for violating this handbook, you will be provided only the following basic necessities and legal rights unless you abuse access or security concerns require further restriction:
a. Access to legal counsel via telephone calls
b. Legal mail
c. Adequate food, lighting, ventilation, temperature control, sanitation, and necessary medical care
d. Appropriate clothing, bedding, and access to toilets, sinks, and showers
20.2 – Sanction Limits
Sanctions imposed for rule violations shall not exceed:
a. Level II violations: 20 days
b. Level III violations: 45 days
20.3 – Authority for Sanction Length
The hearing officer shall determine the length of any sanction. Any sanction exceeding 30 days must be approved by the Chief Jail Administrator. In all cases, the maximum sanction arising from a single incident shall not exceed 45 days.
20.4 – Housing Assignment During Sanction
Sanctions exceeding 72 hours shall be served in administrative or disciplinary segregation when space permits. Upon completion of the sanction period, the detainee shall remain in segregation until formally reclassified by staff.
20.5 – Trustee Status
Detainees assigned trustee status may lose that status upon conviction for any rule violation.
20.6 – Interruption of Sanction Time
Detainees on disciplinary status shall remain in disciplinary segregation for the duration of their sanction. If temporarily reassigned to another status (e.g., medical watch or suicide watch), the sanction time shall be suspended and will resume upon return to disciplinary segregation.
