Section 5 - Sanitation
5.1 - Each detainee has an obligation to assist detention staff in maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment. Detainees are responsible for the cleanliness of their assigned cell and day area.
5.2 - Cleaning materials will be issued daily to support proper sanitation of housing areas. All detainees are expected to ensure their cells and day areas are clean, orderly, and prepared for inspection at the designated time.
5.3 - Each detainee is responsible for the cleanliness of their cell and assigned day area, including but not limited to walls, floors, sinks, toilets, showers, bunks, and any other fixtures or assigned property.
5.4 - Cells shall be thoroughly cleaned, including all surfaces and fixtures. All trash and waste materials must be properly disposed of in designated trash receptacles.
5.5 - Sheets, paper, or any other materials shall not be hung or draped on beds, doors, railings, light fixtures, vents, windows, or walls.
5.6 - The shift supervisor shall inspect housing areas and evaluate sanitary conditions as part of routine inspections.
5.7 - If a housing area fails a sanitation inspection due to unsatisfactory conditions, the shift supervisor may restrict the following privileges for up to 72 hours:
a. Recreation yard
b. Visitation
c. Commissary access
d. Telephone use
e. Television privileges
5.8 - Sanitation-related restrictions apply to the entire housing unit and are separate from disciplinary sanctions imposed under the facility’s disciplinary procedures.
